The solar system consists of the sun, eight planets, and various celestial bodies such as satellites, comets, asteroids. The planets revolve around the sun in elliptical orbits. Some planets have satellites. These satellites revolve around the planets and together with the planets move around the sun. So the solar system is a rotating system centered on the sun.

Until now, nine planets are known as members of the solar system, namely: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Until the 17th century, only six planets were known, namely Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars. Jupiter, and Saturn. Uranus was discovered in 1781, Neptune in 1846, and Pluto in 1930.

The eccentricity is defined as the ratio of the distance between the two foci of the ellipse and its long axis. Eccentricity is a measure of how curved an ellipse is. Usually symbolized by the letter ‘e’. The magnitude of e ranges from 0 The Eccentricity of the Planets in the Solar System

The following are some of the eccentricities of the planets closest to Earth that you need to know:

1. Mercury

The closest planet to the sun is 0.39 AU. During the day the temperature reaches 42700 Celsius, while at night it reaches – 17000 Celsius. The eccentricity of this planet Mercury is 0.206. The farthest distance to the Sun (aphelion) is 57.9 million km. The perihelion distance is 22 million km. Having no atmosphere, Mercury’s sky is black. The density or density is 5.43 gr/cm3.

2. Venus

Known as the Morning Star or Evening Star. Its orbit is close to a circle because of its eccentricity of 0.007 The distance to the Sun is 0.72 AU, and its very hot temperature can reach 48000 Celsius. 5. Jupiter

The average distance to the Sun is 5.2 AU. Its eccentricity is 0.048 with a period of revolution of 11.86 years. Mars has 17 satellites (data up to 1992). Its four large satellites are named IO, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. Jupiter is the largest planet in the solar system; with a rotation period of 9 hours 50 minutes; rotates very fast.

6. Saturn

The average distance to the Sun is 9.5 AU. Its eccentricity is 0.056 with a period of revolution of 29.5 years. Saturn is decorated with beautiful bracelets and rings. It has 9 satellites, namely Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion, Lapetus, and Phoebe.

7. Uranus

The average distance to the Sun is 19.2 AU. The eccentricity is 0.047 with a period of revolution of 84 years. Uranus has rings and has 5 satellites, namely Miranda, Ariel, Umbriel, Titania, and Oberon.

8. Neptune

The average distance to the Sun is 30.07 AU. Its eccentricity is 0.009 with a period of revolution of 164.8 years. It has two satellites, Triton and Nereid.

9. Pluto

Pluto has been decided not a planet (at the IAU session in Prague, the Czech Republic in August 2006 and decided by a vote of 424 astronomers). Its size is relatively small so it does not have enough gravity to maintain its spherical shape. It does not have a clear orbit because its orbit overlaps with the orbits of other planets. But in the calculations of astronomers, Pluto itself has an eccentricity of 0.250.
